Christine Shanahan

Principal / Director

Christine Shanahan is the Principal/Director of the firm and experienced in family law, Wills and Estates, property and commercial law.

She came to law from a taxation consultancy, business and farming background and studied law whist raising her family. In 1997, she commencing working in a local Latrobe Valley firm as initially as a law clerk then as a practising solicitor. During these years she worked in personal injury, Wills & Estates and Family Law together with other general practice areas. One significant standout achievement during this period was the successful appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal of a decision of the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal.

In 2005, Christine commenced her own practice trading as Christine J Shanahan & Associates as a sole practitioner servicing clients from Southeast Melbourne to Mallacoota, with offices in Traralgon, Pakenham and Bairnsdale. In 2008, provided an exciting year with the decision in Tristan & Ernt [2008] FamCA 333 (2 May 2008) being reported in the Family Law Reports in which Christine represented the Applicant Husband.

In 2017, she purchased the firm Davine Fitzpatrick in Moe and with her team expanded and amalgamated the two practices to become what is now the law practice “Christine J Shanahan – Davine Shanahan Fitzpatrick”.

In the weathering of the storm of Covid-19 and all the uncertainty of same, the firm remained optimistic and the team enjoyed further expansion came with the addition of Kaylah Hunter, solicitor, joining the firm in October 2020.

Throughout these years, the firm has provided representation in negotiations, mediations and litigation in family law matters Australia wide including not only Victoria but also NSW, QLD, SA and WA together with an extensive practice in property, commercial and Wills/Estates.

  • Graduated University of Sydney (Legal Practitioners Admission Board) on 18 June 1998
  • Admitted to practice in Supreme Court of Victoria on 6 September 1999
  • Admitted to practice in High Court of Australia on 17 January 2000
  • Accreditation in Taxation Consultancy 1990
